My son Max is turning nine, NINE! It amazes me how fast the time has gone and what a wonderful big boy he is. His confidence is growing, he has developed this lovely empathy for others and he’s intrigued by our global differences.
The next 3 blogs are a little bit of personal history, to bring us up to date –
Currently we live in Hong Kong, we moved here in June of 2009 from Florida. In the beginning I suffered the typical expat homesickness, brought on by a few triggers like losing our passports, crowds of people pushing through doorways and into elevators (that joke about Americans needing three feet of personal space, I really did) and living in a remote small village surrounded by poisonous snakes and millions of mosquitos, where no one spoke a word of English. My homesickness turned into a bout of depression followed by hair loss, not realizing I was suffering until I started to feel normal again. We had planned to stay in Hong Kong for twelve weeks, I packed one suitcase for each of us (my husband Tristan was already here) and we set off on this incredible experience abroad.
